Will Kyrsten Sinema Even Make it to a Second Term?
I certainly hope not.
As much as I might thoroughly despise Senator Kyrsten Sinema and her obstructionist antics on everything ranging from filibuster reform to the $15 minimum wage, a part of me does find it almost entertaining to watch her political prospects spiral as she attempts to come up with excuses that only grow increasingly flimsy with each passing day.
Now, Sinema is evidently arguing that the Democratic party has more to lose than to gain from filibuster reform. After listing off examples of when Democrats used the filibuster in a recent Washington Post op-ed, Sinema immediately follows it by writing:
“My support for retaining the 60-vote threshold is not based on the importance of any particular policy. It is based on what is best for our democracy. The filibuster compels moderation and helps protect the country from wild swings between opposing policy poles.”
Ah, so the policies that Democrats were able to defend using the filibuster mean nothing to her as she seems to originally claim? Her opposition to filibuster reform has nothing to do with protecting Democratic priorities in…
