Will Democrats ever accept responsibility for their failures?
Let’s just say I’m not holding my breath.
It has been nearly a year since Democrats were given unilateral control of the white house, the senate, and the house of representatives. With the criminal mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic under the leadership of the Republican party, Democrats were given a mandate. Frankly, after running on campaign promises of $2,000 checks, a $15 minimum wage, universal pre-K, police reform, robust action to combat climate change, prescription drug price reform, voting rights legislation, permanent child tax credits and other popular proposals as well, is it really surprising that people turned out? Obviously, the pandemic was probably one of if not the biggest factors contributing to Donald Trump and the GOP’s loss, but it would be foolish to deny the fact that the promises of another covid relief check and higher wages weren’t motivating factors for voters as well.
Of course, a lot has changed since then.
Not even a year into his presidency, and President Biden’s approval rating has never been lower, Kamala Harris’ is even lower than his, polling indicates the majority of Americans would rather see Republicans take control of the house in 2022, and they are poised to take the Senate as well.
