Why is Elon Musk Actively Destroying Twitter?
I’ve got a couple potential theories.
It’s been less than two weeks since Elon Musk took over Twitter, and incredibly he’s already managed to destroy it. In less than fourteen days he has sent the future of this giant social media company into a spiral, prompting advertisers to flee in a panic after erratic, nonsensical decisions such as allowing anyone to get a verified check mark if they spend $8 a month to subscribe to Twitter Blue.
Ah, Twitter Blue. Let’s talk about that, shall we? Arguably the heart of the current problem. More specifically, we should talk about why Elon Musk decided to dig into this program. So much so, that in order to pressure people to subscribe he said publicly that those who did not subscribe would see their visibility on the timeline and their reach decrease significantly due to changes the company would be making to the algorithm.
But it doesn’t end there.
Within days, the future of Twitter Blue has been put into question. Why? Because a few incredibly savvy individuals decided to take advantage of the opportunity not just to make a point about the importance of legitimate verification status on social media by impersonating a few celebrities, but by impersonating massive, multi-billion dollar corporations.
