Well, it Looks Like the GOP’s Boss Man is in Trouble Again.
The FBI searched Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home.
--
Last night, Donald Trump himself released a statement to CNN confirming that while he was in New York, the FBI had issued a search warrant and entered his compound on Mar-a-Lago. What they were searching for exactly we don’t yet know, but the articles, of course, have been flowing and the speculation brewing.
Eric Tucker and Michael Balsamo with AP write:
“…Trump, disclosing the search in a lengthy statement, asserted that agents had opened up a safe at his home and described their work as an “unannounced raid” that he likened to “prosecutorial misconduct.”
The search intensifies the months-long probe into how classified documents ended up in boxes of White House records located at Mar-a-Lago earlier this year. It occurs amid a separate grand jury investigation into efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and adds to the potential legal peril for Trump as he lays the groundwork for another run…
…Trump did not elaborate on the basis for the search, but the Justice Department has been investigating the potential mishandling of classified information after the National Archives and Records Administration said it had received from Mar-a-Lago 15 boxes of White House records, including documents containing classified information, earlier this year. The National Archives said Trump should have turned over that material upon leaving office, and it asked the Justice Department to investigate…”
At this point, I will be absolutely shocked if Donald Trump doesn’t face charges of some sort, whether it be a result of January 6th committee findings or this issue with the classified documents. They would not make a move like this if there wasn’t something incredibly significant to justify it. Attorney General Merrick Garland is cautious almost to a fault, and this would not have been done unless he personally gave the go ahead. Of course, whether Trump will be found guilty on any charges is something else entirely, but it reaches a point where avoiding pressing charges for the sake of not looking “political” is no longer feasible. Clearly, it seems, we’ve reached that point.
