We Deserve An Honest Explanation From Joe Biden.

If he wants our vote, at the very least he should truthfully explain his record.

There are quite a few qualities encompassing America’s “Uncle Joe” Biden that stand out to me now that we’ve seen him return to the political arena. One quality in particular that is perfectly clear is his complete lack of any introspection, or the ability to reflect and consider just how his undeniably poor record has impacted average Americans.

Here’s the thing. If he was honest enough to acknowledge that his actions have had a direct negative impact on the people he expects to vote for him, then I would respect his candidacy a whole lot more. Let’s take a moment to consider the fact that Bill Clinton has said signing the 1994 crime bill is one of the biggest regrets of his entire political career. Yet Biden still defends it. In fact he goes even further. According to CNN:

“Asked about prison reform this week in New Hampshire, Biden brought up the crime bill. He told the audience member who asked about prison reform “you’ve been conditioned to say” that the 1994 legislation “is a bad bill.”’

So not only does he refuse to apologize for such a disastrous piece of legislation, he outright dismissed any criticism of it. Not only does that indicate a blatant disregard to admit your wrongs, it shows an astounding lack of integrity as well. Thanks to the crime bill that Biden pushed for and WROTE, the United States has the highest incarceration rate of its citizens in the entire world. I’m not sure any rational person, let alone a democratic candidate running in the year 2019, should be touting that record. Pointing out the disasters caused by that bill has nothing to do with conditioning, but everything to do with objective facts. Interesting how both Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump both feel that pointing out facts is just manufactured hysteria, isn’t it?

I don’t want pandering from Mr. Biden. I want explanations. We deserve to know why he’s done what he’s done, and not to be dismissed out of hand when we ask. The very least that a candidate running for the highest office in the land could give his electorate is transparency. We should be able to confront him in an honest, sincere way about his record and receive honest, sincere answers in return. Does Mr. Biden really feel this way about the crime bill, or is he simply unwilling to listen to facts and reason when it comes to his own voting record? Of course, neither case makes Mr. Biden look very good.

With each passing week, Mr. Biden’s deep and undeniable flaws as a candidate become evermore apparent. I don’t think it’s too much to ask that a politician is able to take criticism and learn from it. Times are changing, and if a politician isn’t willing or able to show they’re evolving with it, then they need to be cast aside.
