Wait, What is Going on in Russia?
Let’s talk about the attempted coup, and the broader implications.
Well, I certainly didn’t have waking up to news that there’s currently an attempted coup attempt or “rebellion” going on in Russia on my bingo card for the day but hey, I can’t be the only one, right?
So, what exactly is going on?
Max Burman with NBC News writes:
“Russian President Vladimir Putin has labeled Yevgeny Prigozhin’s mercenary revolt an ‘armed mutiny’ and vowed to put down the effort.
Calling the Wagner rebellion a treasonous “stab in the back” of Moscow’s troops, Putin minced no words as he addressed the nation about the man who was once his caterer.
The Russian leader admitted the situation in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don was complicated but said that the state “will defend itself and repel” the effort…”
Like so many others, I’m still trying to process this and the broader significance of what’s currently going on in Russia.
I suppose we should all begin by acknowledging that a coup attempt in a nuclear power is not exactly something we want to see, regardless of how we might feel about Putin. It’s hard to gage what exactly is going on as the group responsible insists this is not a…
