Tucker Carlson Blamed Afghanistan’s Collapse on ‘Gender Studies’.
Because of course he did.
Of all the nefarious, self interested people on the right, Tucker Carlson is arguably the most dangerous. Is it becomes increasingly likely that Carlson is going to be aiming for some sort of political office in the future, he has not shied away from making overt appeals to the very worst aspects of the right wing base and grows only more brazen when he does so. That said, I have to admit his remarks on the circumstances in Afghanistan still managed to surprise me.
In a recent monologue on his show, Carlson said:
“It turns out that the people of Afghanistan don’t actually want gender studies symposia. They didn’t actually buy the idea that men can become pregnant. They thought that was ridiculous. They don’t hate their own masculinity. They don’t think it’s toxic, they like the patriarchy, some of their women like it too, so now they’re getting it all back. So maybe it’s possible that we failed in Afghanistan because the entire neoliberal program is grotesque.”
Ah, yes. That’s it, he nailed it.
The reason the war in Afghanistan ended the way it did is because of gender studies programs at Kabul university. Surely it has nothing to do with the fact that we spent twenty years and costing…
