Trump’s Endorsement Doesn’t Seem to Hold the Weight That it Used to.
It’s interesting to speculate about what that means.
Election nights heading into the 2020 midterms have been interesting thus far. While its been refreshing to watch candidates like John Fetterman and Summer Lee win their primaries on the left, there’s no denying it’s been interesting to see the results for the Trump supported candidates within the GOP. Frankly, its becoming clear that while Donald Trump undoubtedly remains the Godfather of the Republican Party, his endorsement does not appear to carry the weight that it used to.
Of course, a number of his preferred candidates certainly won. Perhaps among the most unsettling of these results has been the primary election victory of Doug Mastriano, a far right wing election denier in Pennsylvania. But others, most notably Madison Cawthorn lost. David Perdue of Georgia appears to have virtually no shot of winning the GOP primary for Governorship, and Dr. Oz in Pennsylvania is looking as though he potentially might not win, either.
While of course he’s certainly not going to succeed in picking candidates or swaying the vote in every instance, Perdue, Cawthorn, and Oz stand out in particular because of how high profile these elections are. Trump was genuinely invested in these races, and its…
