Top Democrats Have Agreed to Advance a $3.5 Trillion Budget.

As of Tuesday, July 13th, top Democrats within the party have agreed that alongside the infrastructure bill, a $3.5 trillion budget will go along with it through the reconciliation process that’s shielded from the filibuster.

Needless to say, considering the seemingly endless barrage of very little good news we’ve had lately, I’m pleasantly surprised.

Emily Cochrane with The New York Times reports:

“Top Democrats announced on Tuesday evening that they had reached agreement on an expansive $3.5 trillion budget blueprint, including plans to pour money into addressing climate change and expanding Medicare among an array of other Democratic priorities, that they plan to advance alongside a bipartisan infrastructure deal…”

Of course, we have yet to see whether Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema will agree to it. That said, it’s been clear from the beginning that Manchin is all bark and no bite, and he will cave to sufficient pressure if the party chooses to inflict it. Who can forget how rattled he was when Kamala Harris campaigned in his state of West Virginia to sell the Covid 19 relief bill?
