Well, it was made officially official last night.

After a historic, record breaking, literally legacy defining and game changing tenure with the Iowa Hawkeyes, generational basketball talent Caitlin Clark was drafted number one overall to the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA draft.

I follow football closely and my Buffalo Bills in particular, but until Caitlin Clark I had never paid much attention whatsoever to basketball and none whatsoever to women’s basketball. In fact, it wasn’t until a week or so ago that I learned Brianna Stewart graduated from the high school where most of my family went and was in the same class as my cousin. Caitlin Clark took the nation by storm, and it was easy to see why. She is the embodiment of electricity on the court, and her energy is incredible to watch. Eyes have been on women’s basketball like never before, and before she even announced her intention to enter the draft, the attention she was going to bring to the WNBA was widely discussed.

But, particularly after you look at the contract details, there is a bit of an uncomfortable layer to it.
