The Planet is Dying, and We’re Not Psychologically Ready For it.
Human beings are probably the worst species imaginable to be tasked with saving Earth, but we cannot give up.
Say what you will about New York State, but sometimes I have to admit I feel a little spoiled being able to call the northern portion of this state home. And I don’t mean the stereotypical idea of upstate like the Catskills, or maybe Albany. I mean twenty minutes away from the Canadian border. I mean north of the Adirondack foothills, farm country, and the beautiful St. Lawrence river. All the clean air, and beautiful views. It’s home, and has been since I moved here from Buffalo when I was nearly five years old.
Sometimes, we feel almost untouchable here.
We don’t get the floods. We don’t get the tornados. No hurricanes. Sure there’s definitely some cold weather and a blizzard or two, but it pales in comparison to what other places like Buffalo deal with.
Every once in a while though, something happens. Something like wildfires in Quebec causing our region to have some of the worst air quality in the country, and being advised to not go outside if we can avoid it for over 48 hours. Waking up to orange skies, and being unable to see the sun or even the sky.
