The Democratic Establishment is Panicking About Nina Turner.
And it could be too little too late.
As the race to win the special election in Ohio’s 11th district continues to draw more and more national attention, it’s been fascinating to see the corporate wing of the Democratic party begin to rally against Nina Turner, the former national campaign co-chair and top surrogate for Bernie Sanders. Predictably, Hillary Clinton’s endorsement of Turner’s top opponent, Shontel Brown, was a signal not only to the Democratic Party’s donors as to who they should get behind, it was a signal for the rest of the Democratic establishment to step in as well, and they did not hesitate.
While a number of endorsements for Brown came rolling in, the one that stood out to me in particular — and apparently the media as well — was one from none other than Representative James Clyburn of South Carolina, who is rightfully credited with destroying Bernie Sanders’ chances in his state during the 2020 primary following his endorsement of Joe Biden.
The thing is, unlike Nina Turner, Bernie Sanders wasn’t leading by a whopping 35 points when he decided to step in.
Incredibly, The New York Times didn’t even write Shontel Brown’s name in the headline when announcing his endorsement.
