The assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in the streets of New York City has continued to dominate the headlines, and for good reason. The public has been fascinated with Luigi Mangione, his rationale, and the way all of this unfolded. Of course, watching the media navigate covering it has been fascinating as well. We’ve all heard the stories about how uncomfortable the CEOs of healthcare companies have become, and it’s frankly infuriating how shocked they are about the way the public has reacted.

But in the midst of it all, good questions have been raised about the media by none other than journalist himself Ken Klippenstein, who happened to be the one to publish Mangione’s manifesto.

On Twitter, Klippenstein wrote:

“It’s bad enough that major media outlets refused to publish the manifesto (though they were happy to quote from it selectively); but they also won’t even articulate a reason why. Shouldn’t they at least have to explain the decision?”
