Texas Democrats Managed to Block the State’s Restrictive Voting Bill.

It’s encouraging to see what Democrats can do when they organize, and fight.

It’s no secret that I’ve found the Democratic Party under the leadership of Joe Biden particularly frustrating. Time and time again, even with unilateral control and the ability to nuke the filibuster in order to pass bills in the Senate with a simple majority, Democrats have instead seemingly decided to allow the Republican Party and minority rule to dictate the course of these entire two years legislatively. Perhaps most concerning of all is the fact that Democrats in the Senate are sitting on a sweeping voting rights bill, essential for maintaining what’s left of of the nation’s democratic process as Republican state legislatures gear up to restrict voting during a re-districting year.

Needless to say, time is of the essence. But Texas Democrats have shown lawmakers at the federal level how to fight, and upped the pressure for them to actually stand up for voting rights.

In a show of strength to prevent the Texas GOP and Governor Greg Abbott from signing the new restrictive voting legislation into law, Texas Democrats walked out of the legislative session in order to stop them.
