Should AOC Run For President in 2028?
Considering the future of the young congresswoman’s future in the Democratic Party.
With the 2024 election firmly behind us and those of us on the left and within the Democratic Party preparing to regroup for what comes next, it should come as no surprise that even now, just weeks after Donald Trump became President-elect, articles are already being written about who should run for the Democrats in 2028. As early as it might seem it’s certainly a conversation worth having. There’s so much at stake and the more time to prepare and examine all of the candidates, the better.
Of course, there have been some of the obvious names. Gretchen Whitmer, Josh Shapiro, Gavin Newsom, among others. Naturally, one name mentioned has stood out for me more than others.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Amie Parnes with The Hill writes:
“…When Democrats talk about the future of the party, the 35-year-old New York congresswoman’s name always bubbles to the top.
Democrats have long been impressed with Ocasio-Cortez’s ability to “cut through the BS and tell it like it is,” the second Democratic strategist said.
“She’s somebody who can cut through the noise and doesn’t talk like Washington.”
