Schumer’s Threatening to Nuke the Filibuster Over Voting Rights Legislation.

Well it’s officially the midterm year, and with it comes lawmakers at least attempting to make us believe they want to get something done. After a year of Democrats failing to deliver on any of their campaign promises, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has decided he’s going to tell the American people he’s switching into gear and taking things seriously. In a move that’s designed to give off the ‘enough is enough’ aura of strength, Schumer has now threatened to nuke the filibuster if Senate Republicans do not come aboard and help Democrats pass voting rights legislation.

“Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer announced Monday that the chamber would debate eliminating the filibuster in the coming weeks if Republicans refuse to join Democrats in passing sweeping voting legislation.

While the filibuster was designed to empower the minority party in the Senate, Schumer argued that it now serves to “embarrass the will of the majority,” against the founders’ intentions for legislative procedure. He claimed that Republicans should not be allowed to block the Freedom to Vote Act, using the vehicle of the filibuster, that only further enshrines and expands…
