Schumer’s Ideas for Filibuster Theatrics Are a Waste of time.
Putting forth legislation that won’t pass unless the filibuster is reformed just to “prove a point” means nothing.
For months, the filibuster and what Democrats should do about it has been at the forefront of the conversation when it comes to American politics, and for good reason. With virtually any meaningful legislation containing priorities of the left and the Democratic party voters set to die in the Senate unless the filibuster is done away with or significantly reformed, the pressure from the left to take action has certainly been increasing to make changes. With time rapidly running out for Democrats to get anything done before the focus turns to midterm campaigns and retention of the House and Senate, many have justifiably argued that lawmakers have got to act now.
Of course, Chuck Schumer’s supposed solution to get hesitant members of his caucus on board with filibuster reform is as disappointing as we have come to expect.
In a move supposedly designed to persuade Senators like Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema, and those who quietly support them behind the scenes of the obvious reality that nothing meaningful is going to be achieved through bipartisan ends in the current political climate, Schumer is prepping…
