Republicans like to fancy themselves free speech warriors, don’t they?

If nothing else, they can certainly be known to equate free speech with lack of accountability, and they love nothing more than the ability to whine and chastise the left wing for having the audacity to push back against their harmful rhetoric. But for supposed advocates of free speech, they certainly like to ban the speech they don’t like. In fact in Florida, Ron DeSantis has taken the drastic steps to literally ban the teaching of African American studies in high schools in the state.

Abene Clayton with The Guardian writes:

“Ron DeSantis, Florida’s Republican governor, has rejected a new advanced placement course in African American studies from being taught on high school campuses. He argues that the course violates state law and “lacks educational value”.

This move is the latest in a series of actions to keep conversations and lessons about race, sexuality and gender identity off the state’s school campuses.

DeSantis officially banned the course in a letter…
