Risk Death For a Fetus, and Like it.

In the Idaho GOP’s party platform, they made a point of removing abortion exceptions for the life of the mother.

Even before the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe, it was being argued that doing so is a move that would lead to the death of women. It should come as no surprise, really, that having the government seize our bodies and declare a uterus the property of the state would have devastating consequences. What else can we expect when legislation dictating what happens regarding the most intimate details of our lives and bodies is written by white christian evangelical men and women who simply do not understand, nor do they care to?

Well, they used to at least pretend they cared for the most part.

Even in the immediate aftermath of the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, lawmakers were brushing off the significance.

“We’re not banning abortion, it’s just being left up to the states…”

“If something happens to the mother during pregnancy, of course she will get the care that she needs…”

Of course, a Facebook friend from the old high school days when I was going through the confirmation process for the catholic church weighed in shortly after celebrating the Supreme Court’s decision. The young mother of three wrote:

“Of course they’re not going to let a woman die…”

Obviously, they lied.

In Idaho in fact, the State’s GOP made a point of deliberately removing exceptions for the life of the mother from their anti-choice party platform.

The Associated Press with ABC News writes:

“The Idaho Republican Party has rejected adding language to their platform to allow an abortion to save the life of the mother.

KMVT-TV reported that a majority of the roughly 700 delegates from around the state rejected the change to the party’s existing platform during its three-day convention that wrapped up Saturday. The platform does not have the force of law but states the party’s position it wants Republicans in elected office to follow.
