Rep. Marjorie Greene Wants Kids to Have ‘Measles Parties’.

Because of course she does.

If I had to say I’ve learned one thing about the Republican Party in recent years, I suppose I’d have to go with the fact that you can never, ever underestimate their ability to one up themselves, or at least attempt to. One might even argue that it’s the most dangerous quality about them currently, and it’s disturbing to think about the lengths they are willing to go in order to maintain relevance.

Marjorie Greene, of course, is at the top of her list.

Having said that, if there’s any lawmaker out there who’s going to advocate for children to have “measles parties”, it would be her, right?

“Marjorie Taylor Greene, a prominent Republican congresswoman and a staunch ally of Trump, suggested a return to “measles parties” for children. In a quote tweet, Greene amplified a video contrasting a Brady Bunch clip portraying a relaxed view of the measles with a clip of a measles outbreak on Law and Order: SVU.

That tweet, posted by an account that has promoted flat earth, captioned the clips. “How we handled measles then vs. now.”…”

I mean, it doesn’t get much more mind numbingly ridiculous than that, does it?

Here’s the thing…measles is nothing to play around with, and most adults with common sense would agree that they do not want their children contracting measles. Why risk your child getting a serious illness when you don’t have to? Why risk your child’s health and even life if there is a preventative vaccine out there that can help them?

The mistrust in science is a very calculated, well thought out agenda that the right wing has been pushing for years now, and it’s working.

If they can keep people from trusting in data, science, and reality, they can keep them distracted and opposed to solutions that would actually benefit them as opposed to those at the very top. Not to mention the fact that these so called measles parties would be a direct threat to people with lowered immune systems who are either too young to get the shot or unable to.

But that’s how it goes, right? They do not care. Just another minor inconvenience.

That’s what their entire political identity has been built around and it’s how they have continued to foster success. Of course, the fact that the Democratic Party is both unequipped and uninterested in really combatting them helps as well, but I digress…

You know…I can’t help wondering if Greene’s children have been vaccinated for measles. I would bet that they have. But no one is going to ask her and she would never answer, and as unfortunate as it is to say I don’t think her base would care either way. That’s just the political climate we’re living in today, and until drastic change is forced it’s going to stay that way for the foreseeable future.
