Polling Wise, it Looks Like Trump is in a Lot of Trouble.

His efforts to secure the GOP nomination might not go as smoothly as he thought.

I suppose I can begin that every once in a while, I genuinely enjoy being proven wrong and this would be one of those times.

Since he even hinted at the chances of running for President again, I have long been under the impression that Donald Trump would almost be able to sail right through to the nomination for the Republican Party. Granted, it might not be as easy as last time and a successful run for the Republican nomination is very different than the general election, but I still thought he was going to be all but guaranteed the nomination. After all, with his only real opponent being Ron DeSantis, it just didn’t feel as though he was going to face too much push back. The base is still in his pocket, right?

Or so we thought…

Jared Gans with The Hill writes:

“Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) leads former President Trump by 23 points among Republicans in a hypothetical GOP presidential primary, according to a poll released Tuesday.

The USA Today-Suffolk University poll found that 56 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning voters prefer DeSantis, while only 33 percent would support Trump. More than 60 percent said they want a nominee who will continue Trump’s policies but is not Trump, while 31 percent want the former president to run…

…Pollsters found President Biden leading a hypothetical head-to-head match-up with Trump, 47 percent to 40 percent. DeSantis led Biden in the poll by about 4 points, 47 percent to 43 percent.

Almost two-thirds of GOP and GOP-leaning voters want DeSantis to run for president in 2024, while only 24 percent do not want him to.”

Yeah, Trump’s campaign is certainly not off to a good start.

Obviously, even if these numbers are off be a little bit, it’s still a clear indication that the Republican base is beginning to wake up to the fact that Donald Trump is incredibly toxic. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were at least a little bit sick of hearing about 2020 and the constant whining. It looks as though the base is moving on…
