Our Lawmakers Are Like the Cops Outside Robb Elementary, Aren’t They?

We’re a nation run by spineless cowards.

It’s been over a week since the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and I still have not been able to get Angel Garza out of my head.

I cannot stop thinking about his interview describing arriving on scene, assisting a little girl covered in blood, and finding out the little girl is covered in the blood of his dead daughter. I still hear his cries as he asks how someone could shoot her, telling Anderson Cooper that Amerie was a good kid who always brushed her teeth, and never got in trouble.

It is a pain I cannot even begin to fathom, almost too unbearable to even witness let alone experience. It’s a nightmare that parents all across the country are terrified will come true for them and their kids next.

Personally, the grief and sadness as I think about what these nineteen ten-year-olds and their teachers went through turns to rage when I consider the Uvalde Police Department. The “good guys with guns” who stood outside for an hour, listening to kids being gunned down as parents begged them to go in. The supposed “heroes” who couldn’t find the courage to protect ten-year-olds from slaughter. Cops too cowardly to even be honest with the public in the aftermath about what…
