One of Trump’s First Moves as POTUS? Raising Drug Prices Again.
We all knew it was coming, and he’s getting the last laugh.
Well, we are officially once again in the era of President Donald Trump. After winning the Presidential election in November for the second time and months of preparation and all sorts of implications for what we were in for in the coming years, Trump has wasted no time in leaving his mark as soon as he took office.
Let’s set the stage, shall we?
For months, years even, Donald Trump portrayed himself as the savior. He cast this image of himself as the man of the people who was wronged by those out to get him. He convinced people that the reason he is disliked is because he’s sticking up for the little man. He cares, and others don’t. Trump has been incredibly successful in portraying himself as someone who has the best interest of the American people at heart, and that he will be the fixer.
So what’s one of the first thing he does as soon as he takes office?
Raises prescription drug prices.
Muireann Bolger with Life Sciences Intellectual Property Review writes:
“On the day of his inauguration, President Donald Trump revoked an executive order issued by the Biden administration aimed at lowering the cost of prescription drugs throughout the US.
The move, part of a raft of executive actions issued on Trump’s first day in office yesterday, January 20, marks a significant shift in US drug pricing policy.
The president criticised the previous administration, arguing that “it has embedded deeply unpopular, inflationary, illegal and radical practices within every agency and office of the federal government”…”
What a slap in the face.
No shame. Not a care in the world.
It’s incredible, really. I cannot even attempt to put myself in the shoes of someone who would do this, let alone making it one of the very first things he does in his term as President.
Make no mistake, Donald Trump despises you. When someone tells you who they are, believe them the first time. This was sending a loud and clear message. Thank you for voting for me, now I got it from here. He hasn’t wasted a beat taking full advantage of the American people.
They’re laughing in our faces, daring anyone to do anything about it. I can’t help wondering if at some point, if ever at all, it’s going to make any sort of difference. Will it ever click for people? Is anyone really going to come to terms with what this country has just signed up for? There are dark times lying ahead, but of course it should go without saying that there’s no alternative to simply fighting back. We cannot let this go. Organize, make it known, and continue to hold these lawmakers accountable.
There is no other option.
I just wonder what’s going to happen when people take notice of this, and how Trump will answer for it when he inevitably is forced to do so. Time will tell.
