Once Again, Bernie Sanders is on the Side of Workers.
The Vermont Senator is using his power to stand up for striking rail workers.
As many have heard by now, the renewed potential of a rail strike has been making news once again after the workers themselves have voted soundly against the previous deal that would only give them one sick day a year.
One sick day a year.
Personally, it’s been absolutely surreal to watch the mainstream media framing as this develops. Listening to these multi-millionaire, comfortable pundits tell the American people that these workers could cost the economy billions if they strike — as though they’re the ones to blame — is as amusing as it is infuriating. Just once, I would like to watch them deal with the conditions these workers are expected to endure. Let’s have them do it for a month, and see if they change their tune.
But if nothing else, at least Bernie Sanders is making it unequivocally clear that he’s on the worker’s side. In fact, following Biden’s calls on congress to act, it appears as though Bernie has all but guaranteed they will get the sick leave benefits they want and deserve. He intends to block the bill until there is an amendment adding the guaranteed sick leave, and the idea has gained momentum.
