Noticing inflation? Elites are at least partially to blame.
Because of course they are.
In recent weeks, inflation has dominated the news coverage. While it might certainly be blown out of proportion in some cases, (look no further than CNN’s piece about a family lamenting the cost of milk) it’s been difficult not to notice rising costs of at least some of our common goods. In northern New York where I’m from for instance, the cost of gasoline has risen dramatically, set to hit $4.00 within a couple of months if something doesn’t change.
To be sure, supply chain issues and staffing shortages plaguing industries ranging from trucking to meat packing are the primary cause of any rising costs we might be seeing. That said, a recent report from Ryan Grim and Ken Klippenstein with The Intercept unsurprisingly indicates we can also look among the elites when identifying a cause as well.
Grim and Klippenstein write:
