Nah, Cancelling Student Loan Debt Doesn’t ‘Help the Rich’.

That talking point is nothing more than a ridiculous lie.

As Biden has continued to dangle the issue of the cancellation of student loan debt in front of the American people, there’s a common talking point that just keeps popping up. As Biden finally announced his intentions to cancel $10,000 in student loan debt, while those of us on the left are arguing that it acknowledges the problem but doesn’t go nearly far enough to solve it, others within the Republican Party of course have been calling it a “handout to the rich”.

Handout to the rich?

Really?

In the cesspool that is corporate, mainstream legacy media, their coverage of this issue has not engaged in nearly enough of an effort to combat or even simply address this absolutely ridiculous, outright lie. It’s incredible, really, that on shows like The TODAY Show this morning, the reporter covering the topic who addressed Republican remarks on the issue of student loan cancellation didn’t even bother to point out the most obvious, simple fact.

The rich aren’t taking out student loans.

Honestly. Just take a moment to consider the absurdity of the argument that cancelling student loan debt just hands money to the rich. People who…
