Marjorie Taylor Greene is Absolutely Obsessed With AOC.
The right wing zealot sees Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a tool to advance her career.
Regardless of how one might feel about New York’s Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, there’s no denying she is probably one of the most widely known politicians in Washington and, — at least when it comes to electoral politics — one of the most progressive legislators in congress. Since before she even took office, the GOP have been trying to use AOC to elevate themselves, distracting from the fact that they have nothing to offer voters by pretending as though her positions pose some sort of threat to those among a base that is motivated largely by fear.
Of course, one such GOP representative who has not only been using AOC as a tool to elevate herself but has arguably become obsessed with her is none other than the recently elected Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. After being stripped of her committee assignments and left to search for desperate attempts to remain relevant, Greene recently decided to make a spectacle of herself literally chasing down Representative Ocasio-Cortez, demanding that she accept her challenge to a debate and accusing her of supporting terrorists.
It should come as no surprise that this was not the first time that Marjorie Taylor Greene has decided to attempt to publicly confront the congresswoman in an effort to get attention.
A deleted video from 2019 that AOC retweeted to her Twitter followers shows Marjorie Taylor Greene even before she was elected to congress outside her office door with a small group of individuals, taunting and intimidating the people inside. In the video, Marjorie Taylor Greene can be seen and heard talking through the mail slot, telling AOC to “get rid of your diaper”. Her friends follow suit, with one taunting: “you can’t stay in there forever”.
In response to the video, AOC wrote on Twitter:
“The fact that Kevin McCarthy, the House @GOPLeader, stripped Justin Amash of all committee seats for criticizing Trump, but has worked to protect this person from consequences (including pretending he doesn’t see it) tells you this is happening with the support of GOP leadership.”
Why would someone be expected to have to work with someone who has clearly shown a pattern of treating them this way?
As someone on Twitter observed:
“I mean, you’d get kicked out of a bar for this, why not Congress”
Imagine, just for a moment, if the shoe was on the other foot.
Imagine if a Democrat or someone on the left was approaching Kevin McCarthy, Steve Scalise, or even Matt Gaetz in this manner. Imagine if someone on the left did this to Susan Collins, or Rand Paul. Imagine if there was documented proof of a Democrat or leftist intimidating their office staff, and screaming that they support terrorists as they walk through the halls of congress. How would they respond? How would they call on Nancy Pelosi to respond, and what would she do?
It’s not as though this is a one time conflict with a frustrated constituent with someone there to calm tensions. No one should have to go to work every single day not knowing what their colleague’s behavior towards them is going to escalate to. We wouldn’t tolerate a coworker doing that at our office doors, or running after us yelling that we support terrorists in the hallways, and AOC should not have to put up with it simply because the person harassing her is a fellow congresswoman. Of course, that congresswoman is engaging in this behavior because she knows her party leadership wouldn’t dare condemn it lest they get Trump to come to her defense, full well knowing they would not tolerate this behavior if it was being done to them.
There was certainly an interesting case to be made for AOC debating Marjorie Taylor Greene when it was first brought up, but obviously she should not accept so long as this sort of behavior is being engaged in, accepted, and tolerated by those who can stop it. Marjorie Taylor Greene is obsessed with AOC because she sees how they are not only diametrically opposed, but also views her as simply another tool to use to get brownie points with her base.
