During one of the final days of the 2021–2022 school year in Texas, an eighteen year old gunman abandoned his vehicle, went into Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, opened fire, and slaughtered fourteen children and their teacher.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders. Babies. Babies who were sent to school by parents who expected to see them again in a matter of hours. Babies who spent their last moments in terror.

I, like everyone else, am still struggling to process this.

I, like so many others I’m sure, thought back to Sandy Hook.

Sandy Hook, where terrified parents waited and waited to be reunited with their children until the numbers dwindled, and the law enforcement told those remaining that if they were still there, it was because their child did not make it. I remembered reading that the cries and screams could be heard from the street.

Those babies would have been in High School now. Clearly still, absolutely nothing is being done.

Live on national television on CNN as the news of the Uvalde shooting was breaking, there was video footage of a sheriff and two women sobbing and comforting each other. It’s not too soon for those images…
