It’s now open season on left wing protestors, and the right knows it.
Kyle Rittenhouse walking sets a dangerous precedent.
As upsetting as it was to hear I am not at all surprised by the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict, for a number of reasons. Given the fact that the state of Wisconsin — unlike most other states — does not shift the burden of proof onto the defendant in self defense cases, Rittenhouse was already handed an advantage. Instead of having to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Rittenhouse was acting in self defense like he would in many other places, the jury instead has to consider if the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt that he did not. And then of course, there’s the ugly, brutal reality that this is America. A country that still to this day refuses to come to terms with or confront its own ugly history and continues to favor property and white supremacy over human lives.
While I am not surprised by the verdict, that makes it no less devastating or alarming to watch all of this play out.
Make no mistake, this case sets a dangerous precedent in an already incredibly volatile and increasingly divisive nation. It is now open season on left wing protestors, and the right wing knows it.
