Well, it’s official.

Sarah Palin has lost her special election in the state of Alaska, handing the state’s lone congressional seat to a Democrat in nearly 50 years. In fact, the seat has been in the hands of a Republican since Palin’s challenger and now soon-to-be congresswoman Mary Peltola was a baby.

I mean…what 2022 red wave?

As I’ve said before, I was once entirely under the impression that the right wing victory in November would be historic. But, as we all know, a lot has changed in the past few months. As if the fact that Sarah Palin wasn’t pretty readily disliked in Alaska in the first place, there’s no denying that the overturning of Roe vs. Wade prompted a seismic shift the likes of which I’m not even sure the Republican Party expected. But how can they be surprised, really, when this is merely the end result of catering to an increasingly fringe element of the American electorate that wants to see a uterus become property of the state?

All that being said, it’s particularly refreshing to see someone like Sarah Palin suffer the consequences of the push back to right wing extremism.
