Former Georgia Senator David Perdue is now running for Governor.

Unfortunately, I think he has a pretty good shot.

It’s been nearly a year since the fate of the Senate majority was left with the state of Georgia, with Republicans Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue in what became one of the most closely watched campaigns in the country against Democrats Jon Ossoff, and Raphael Warnock. After Perdue and Loeffler lost their races to their democratic challengers, it should unfortunately come as no surprise that at least one of them would come to the decision that they were not done with politics. Just recently, David Perdue announced his bid to challenge Republican Governor Brian Kemp in a primary, after which the winner will likely be facing Democrat Stacey Abrams in 2022.

Unfortunately — for a multitude of reasons — I think he has a pretty good shot.

For one, there’s the issue of the state’s open assault on voting rights following the 2020 election. An issue that’s plaguing not just Georgia, but a multitude of swing states as the Democratic party, of course, sits idly by. Republicans have come to understand that in order to maintain their hold on power a suppression of the vote is only becoming more and more necessary with each passing election, and it seems likely that they are going to do everything they possibly can…
