Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Confronted High School Students For Wearing Masks.

It’s all about theater for the GOP.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has certainly made himself known following his rise in 2018. Following the onset of the Covid019 pandemic here in the United States in particular, DeSantis has been all too eager to capitalize on the politicization of a public health crisis, and curry favor with a Trump-beholden base. He did so by putting the safety of his constituents at risk, going so far as to attempt school districts from enforcing mask mandates for children who up until relatively recently could not even get vaccinated.

It should come as no surprise then, that DeSantis has taken yet another opportunity to put himself in the spotlight to remind his base of just who he is and what he could deliver for them on the national stage.

In front of the cameras, DeSantis sauntered up to the podium with a group of students from the Hillsborough School District who were wearing masks meant to be standing behind him, and said:

“You do not have to wear those masks. Please take them off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything. We’ve gotta stop with this Covid theater. So if you wanna wear it…
