I know I’m not the only one who finds the legislative and political outlook here in the United States bleak to say the least. Money in politics has captured our government all but entirely throughout the entire country, and more often than not we’re reminded of the fact that until the wealthy and corporations are no longer able to purchase our elections, nothing meaningful is going to change. After all, it’s been structurally designed to ensure that is the reality.

Having said that, every once in a while we can find something good to turn to. Something that gives us a little bit of a reason to celebrate.

The staff of 13 On Your Side in Michigan write:

“As part of the state’s recently passed budget, public schools will get funding to provide free meals for public school students.

The nearly $82 billion budget includes $160 million in funding to provide no-cost healthy breakfasts and lunches for all public school students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

…The program, called “Healthy School Meals for All,” will begin for students on the first day of the 2023–24 school year…”
