Does California Governor Gavin Newsom Deserve to be Re-Elected?

If we’re being honest, I would argue no.

Let me begin first by saying, I absolutely do not want Larry Elder to win California’s Gubernatorial recall election.

It should go without saying that the people of California deserve far better than yet another right wing zealot denouncing mask mandates as a deadly pandemic continues to surge. All that being said, when we take a minute to step back and consider Gavin Newsom’s career and the interests he has beholden himself to, it’s worth asking does he actually deserve to win? Does he actually deserve to represent the people of California and their interests?

Let’s consider, for example, the recent Dixie wildfire that’s engulfed a significant amount of land in California, and is set to become California’s largest. Now, let’s consider the entity allegedly responsible for the start of this fire that has engulfed entire towns: California’s utility, PG&E.

In 2020, PG&E plead guilty to not one, but eighty four deaths caused by the wildfire known as “camp fire” a couple of years earlier that started as a direct result of their negligence and unwillingness to make updates to their equipment, like burying their electricity lines.
