DeSantis Has a New Enemy, and it’s the College Football Playoff Committee.
Of all the things the right wing has told us about themselves over the years, one of them would certainly be that they’re never shying away from finding another target. They love having something to point a finger at, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is no exception. The Presidential hopeful has found something else in recent days, and it just so happens to be the college football playoff committee…
Let’s backtrack for a moment, shall we, and we’ll discuss why.
I’ve come to love football over the years, and my Buffalo Bills in particular. I’ve learned to appreciate just how smart you have to be to play this sport successfully, and I absolutely love spending Sundays in the fall and winter watching the carefully orchestrated chaos that is the sport of football.
But, this is the first year I’ve really paid any attention whatsoever to football at the collegiate level, and there weren’t many teams more fun to watch than Florida State. Of course, quarterback Jordan Travis being one of the main reasons. But two weeks before the end of the season with playoffs and major decisions for the selection committee looming Travis broke his leg, and the team would have to find new ways to win the next two weeks. But, they did, and Florida State finished their season undefeated at the top of the ACC.
Unfortunately the selection committee still did not feel they were worthy of a playoff spot, and went with Alabama instead.
Of course, it’s easy for us to say it’s nothing more than a game, because it’s true. We can grumble about it as fans for a bit, and move on with our lives and the far more pressing concerns we’re dealing with. But Jordan Travis took to social media to remind us in the most heartbreaking way how it’s so much bigger than that for a kid like him, writing:
“devastated. heartbroken. In so much disbelief rn, I wish my leg broke earlier in the season so y’all could see this team is much more than the quarterback. I thought results matter. 13–0 and this roster matches up across any team in those top 4 rankings. I am so sorry. Go Noles!”
