Democratic Lawmakers Value Republican ‘Colleagues’ More Than Their Voters.
And it’s going to cost them, as it should.
I’m still trying to process what’s happened in Texas.
As virtually all of us have heard by now, the most draconian pice of legislation preventing abortion was recently signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott. As though preventing abortions after six weeks before the overwhelming majority of women even know they’re pregnant wasn’t enough, perhaps even more disturbing is the means by which they intend to enforce it. There will be a $10,000 reward for anyone who successfully sues a woman or anyone who helps her to get it after 6 weeks, actively incentivizing people to harass and stalk women who they believe may be pregnant, surround and spy on clinics, and prey on poor women in the state during their most vulnerable moments who don’t have the means to travel elsewhere.
It’s certainly also worth noting that there is predictably no exception for rape, or incest.
But where has the Democratic party — particularly at the federal level — been during all of this? Where have Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Joe Manchin been while the rights of women in Texas are being systematically stripped away by a piece of legislation that is already becoming a model for legislation in other…
