Bye, Nancy Pelosi.

Let’s talk about who’s replacing her.

Well, it’s official.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced that she will not be seeking the position of House Minority Leader next year, and claims instead to be stepping back so that new leadership can take over.

And of course, there’s an obvious “successor” in mind.

Representative Hakeem Jeffries.

As the news about her intentions to announce her decision to step back was circulating on Twitter, MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan weighed in, writing:

“Why does a 52-year-old Black man who has served in Congress for a decade, been in elected politics for 15 years, & before that a top lawyer, need his hand held, or to be ‘guided’ as Speaker? Am I the only one who sees this Pelosi move as a little patronizing vis a vis Jeffries?”

Ah, but I don’t think this is about “guidance” at all.

This is about Nancy Pelosi taking the time to ensure not only that this neoliberal, pro-corporate shell of a politician will get her position, but this is about squashing the left as well.
