“Bipartisanship” at What Cost?

How much are we willing to sacrifice for a Democratic talking point?

Like countless others, among the first places I go in order to get an idea of what the news for the day will be, I turn to social media. A place where I can find not only articles that catch my attention, but tweets or commentary from lawmakers or pundits as well. Recently, I stumbled across a tweet that came from the account of Mondaire Jones, one of the progressive representatives who has vowed to vote no on the bipartisan infrastructure deal unless it comes with the reconciliation package that the left was promised.

Mondaire’s tweet said:

“Wondering how many Americans will know which infrastructure bill was ‘bipartisan’ versus the number who will know whether Medicare was expanded, child care became affordable, and the planet was saved.”

Needless to say, I’m sure the vast majority of us on the left would agree with the sentiment.

There’s no denying that pressure has been mounting for weeks if not months for the Democratic party to deliver something for the American people. Since the Covid-19 relief bill, there has been little that would even…
