Biden’s Voting Rights Speech Was Basically Pointless.
All talk, no action.
I’m sure those of us who follow politics heard about or watched Joe Biden’s recent voting rights speech. An impassioned speech where the President declared that the GOP’s attack on voting rights was the “most significant threat to our democracy since the civil war”.
Except, of course, he conveniently failed to point out the tool that Democrats have at their disposal right now to stop it: nuking the filibuster so they can get the voting rights bill passed.
Frankly, it’s surreal to hear the President’s rhetoric on this issue, and juxtapose it with what he’s actually done, or pressured others in his party to do as its leader. Biden’s now literally given a televised address claiming these issues are a threat to democracy comparable to the civil war, but his position is still to keep the filibuster, knowing it’s what prevents the federal government and Democrats from intervening.
I just have to ask, how can anyone even take him seriously about the issue knowing this?
The thing that I and I’m sure many others find particularly aggravating is that Biden’s behavior is actually incredibly counterproductive. The vast, overwhelming majority of the country does not follow politics regularly. So what, exactly, are they going to…
