Biden Decided to Pause Student Loan Payments Again.

Now, cancel them.

I’m a firm believer in giving credit where credit is due. In this instance, it appears as though the credit is to be given to none other than President Joe Biden, who has finally come to the decision that student loan payments that were halted due to the pandemic and set to resume in February should be paused once again. This time, the deadline has been pushed until May of 2022.

It should go without saying that this was the correct, logical move. Not only would resuming student loan repayments at the tail end of what is primed to be another incredibly deadly, devastating Covid winter be political suicide, but more importantly incredibly cruel. We’ve grown so accustomed to it all it’s easy to forget how absolutely brutal these past two years in particular have been. At a moment when people are just beginning to get back on their feet if they’ve even been able to do so at all, there is absolutely no justification for resuming repayments for loans that students should not even be forced to take out in the first place.

Of course, this news also serves as a reminder of the fact that Biden promised to cancel student loan debt up to $10,000.

Now certainly seems like a good time to fulfill that promise.
