Bernie’s Critique of Biden’s SOTU Address Was Spot On.
Once again, the Vermont Senator is correct.
There really is no point in dwelling on the 2020 Democratic primary, but every once in a while it’s impossible not to consider how close Bernie came to victory and wonder what could have been. Especially now, in the midst of a pandemic and millions of children slip back into poverty, it’s hard not to wonder what things would look like if Bernie had won. Of course, after hearing his critiques of Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address, those thoughts returned.
On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert following Biden’s speech, Bernie said:
“What he [Biden] didn’t get into enough tonight is the power of money in politics, and lets be very clear. We have a corrupt political system, candidates and members of both the Democratic and Republican party take huge amounts of money from the pharmaceutical industry, from the fossil fuel industry. And unfortunately we have at least two United States senators who are more interested in getting campaign contributions from the wealthy and the powerful than doing the work of the American people. It’s a sad state of affairs but you know, it’s not just Manchin and Sinema. You’ve got 50 Republicans, and not one of them is prepared to stand up to the drug companies, not one of them is prepared to stand up…
