While I and countless others certainly wish he had gone further, President Biden’s decision to cancel up to $20,000 in student loan debt was undeniably a turning point for his administration. It’s a move that is going to help an overwhelming number of people across the country, and a necessary reminder for the American people that we should not be afraid to expect and demand better from lawmakers who have been elected to serve us. Obviously, the decision is also politically popular and Biden saw a much needed bump in the polling afterwards.

Of course, he’s also left Republicans boiling, and some like Ted Cruz have even gone so far as to look for avenues by which they can actually prevent the Biden administration from cancelling this debt altogether. Well, Bernie Sanders had a very simple response.

ON MSNBC, the Senator from Vermont said:

“A strong majority of the American people think we should cancel student debt. And if Sen. Cruz and others want to challenge that, I think that’s going to hurt them politically.”
