Being anti-Trump is not enough.
Democrats blew it in Virginia, and are about to do the same everywhere else next year.
Well, election night was not a good one for democrats, and I and countless others on the left can’t exactly say we’re surprised. To say democrats blew it in Virginia would certainly be an understatement, considering a state that went for Biden in 2020 by a double digit margin has now swung to the GOP within a year. It would be absolutely foolish not to view this as a sign of what’s to come for the party in the midterm elections, but whether they actually take the opportunity to reflect and consider what led to this moment is another story.
Following an election, the coverage is laughably predictable. If a progressive wins, it’s a fluke to be dismissed. Nothing to take seriously. If a centrist wins, it’s a cheerleading opportunity for the media and the pundit class to declare that centrism is the path forward for the party. If a centrist loses, it gets twisted into being the fault of the progressives for dragging the party too far left, and we’re already seeing that narrative taking hold in the wake of a brutal night for the party.
