As the Pandemic Rages, the Supreme Court Squashed the Eviction Moratorium.

The cruelty knows no bounds.

In a devastating move that many of us likely saw coming, the right wing supreme court voted 6–3 to end Joe Biden’s and the CDC’s eviction moratorium. A moratorium that was preventing hundreds of thousands of people from being thrown out on the streets in the middle of a pandemic that continues to rage.

In an unsigned eight page opinion, the court wrote:

“Congress was on notice that a further extension would almost surely require new legislation, yet it failed to act in the several weeks leading up to the moratorium’s expiration…If a federally imposed eviction moratorium is to continue, Congress must specifically authorize it.”

Six right wing ivy league lawyers essentially just voted to evict hundreds of thousands of people in the middle of a pandemic while a congress largely made up of other lawyers and millionaires sat back to just let it happen.
