Well, the government shutdown continues with no end in sight. Both Republicans and Democrats have dug their heals in, and both seem to be embracing the opportunity to push their respective narratives. For the right, we all know this is an opportunity to do what they’ve wanted to do all along: slash government agencies and make the government unable to function. As for the Democrats however, I don’t think anyone has a better message or framing for the situation other than Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who showcased it recently on CNN.

In the interview, Bernie said:

“I am not going to go back to Vermont and tell 45,000 people that they no longer have health care. And to tell many, many thousands of others who can’t afford it, can’t afford it, that their premiums are going to double. Republicans understand that they are losing this battle, and I think they’re going to begin to understand they have to come to the table and negotiate a reasonable agreement.”

I could not have said it better myself.

I love this for a multitude of reasons. First off, he’s clearly outlining the massive implications of what’s at stake here. Saying he’s not going to go back to Vermont…
