It’s been a long time coming.

Finally, after a year of obstruction, corruption, and giving the middle finger to her constituents and the country overall, Senator Kyrsten Sinema has been censured by Arizona’s Democratic party. Of course, it’s a move that is largely symbolic, but it’s certainly indicative of what Sinema can expect in the coming weeks, months, and years while re-election looms.

Jack Healy with The New York Times writes:

“…The censure from the party’s executive board was symbolic, but it crystallized a growing sense of anger and frustration among liberal activists and Democratic voters aimed at Ms. Sinema.

They accuse Ms. Sinema, a first-term senator, of impeding key parts of President Biden’s agenda, and have vowed to withhold donations and search for a liberal primary challenger when she is up for re-election in two years…”

And therein lies the significance…

The censure itself might be largely symbolic, but withholding of money and the state party vowing to find a primary challenger is not. Kyrsten Sinema has now all but destroyed her chances of re-election. That is, if she even cared about re-election.
