Apparently Joe Biden Still Has the Nerve to Ask Us for Money.
A response to one of the latest tweets of the President-Elect.
It should go without saying that since before Joe Biden even officially announced he was running for President, I have been less than optimistic about the realities of what his administration would look like. Now President-Elect, leave it to Joe Biden — with a single tweet — to compel me to reach new levels of disgust I frankly never knew existed.
Biden’s Twitter shared a tweet that read:
“Here’s the deal: Because President Trump refuses to concede and is delaying the transition, we have to fund it ourselves and need your help. If you’re able, chip in to help fund the Biden-Harris transition.”
Attached, of course, was a fundraising link.
At this very moment, there are mothers and fathers sitting at the kitchen table, overcome with stress that is going to take years off of their life because they are on the verge of being evicted. There are mothers putting their bank accounts into overdraft just to buy diapers for their baby, and others are sick to their stomachs with worry about how they’re going to be able to afford to survive after they cut back their hours at work in order to ensure their child is able to get a remote education. Tens of millions of people have lost their jobs, and are on the precipice of losing their housing. 250,000 people are dead due to the coronavirus, with millions of their loved ones left to mourn them, and grapple with the added layer of grief that comes with the trauma of being unable to hold their hands or be with them when they went. Studies are being conducted about the level of stress, grief, and trauma this crisis has caused frontline healthcare workers. We are living in a nation that has failed its people in nearly every conceivable way, on every level of government, across party lines, because it actively chose to do so.
And yet Joe Biden, a man whose campaign was funded by over one hundred billionaires, who vehemently assured his Wall Street donors that nothing would fundamentally change, has the nerve to ask the American people for their money to fund his transition into power.
In response, Felicity on Twitter wrote:
“I took out $27k in student loans, have paid $11k, And I currently owe $34k”
Every once in a while, I get an email from a reader who — sometimes even with the best of intentions — tells me I can come across as too cynical. Well, leave it to Joe Biden to provide a case in point argument as to why it’s so incredibly difficult not to be. It seems as though with each passing day, Joe Biden and the Democratic party manage to perfectly encompass everything the left has come to despise about them even better than they did the day before.
It’s long past time for every single Democratic voter to look within themselves, and ask if they would accept what they’re seeing from Joe Biden if it was coming from a progressive candidate. If it was Bernie Sanders who stood in front of the American people with his hand out after he’s already been elected at a time when millions are trying to figure out where their next meal is coming from let alone making a rent payment, would they take issue with it? Even setting aside a progressive politician, if it was Ted Cruz asking the American people to donate to something like this under the current circumstances, wouldn’t liberals be quick to address the grim and ugly reality that so many are currently struggling with?
My guess is, the answer would be yes.
So why are we accepting it from Joe Biden? Why, after the American people have already bowed their heads and given him the power that he wanted, is he asking for more? How much longer is the Democratic party going to carry on with behavior like this before they realize that they’re going to lose the working class if they don’t change course, and do so quickly? At this point, to be fair, it’s getting more and more difficult for me to even pretend to care about the fate of the Democratic party. I just hope that at some point, the American people begin to realize that we deserve so much better than this.
