Another Day, Yet Another Tariff Threat From Donald Trump.

This time, once again, it involves Canada.

Well, here we are yet again.

Another day with another dominating headline involving President Donald Trump and yet more threats of tariffs to neighboring nations and allies. It’s been escalating since he took office, and the American people will continue to pay the price as the President of the United States uses his position of power as a vanity project to boost his ego and vision of himself as some supposed alpha male.

We’ve looped back around to Canada this time and now, and this time Trump’s suggesting imposing a 250% tariff on dairy.

David Goldman with CNN writes:

“A day after offering Canada a one-month reprieve on punishing, virtually across-the-board 25% tariffs, President Donald Trump has threatened new tariffs as soon as Friday on Canadian lumber and dairy products. It’s yet another twist in a serpentine trade policy that seems to shift on an hourly basis.

“Canada has been ripping us off for years on lumber and on dairy products,” Trump said in an Oval Office address Friday, citing Canada’s roughly 250% tariff on US dairy exports to the country. Trump said America would match those tariffs dollar-for-dollar.

“We may do it as early as today, or we’ll wait until Monday or Tuesday,” Trump said. “We’re going to charge the same thing. It’s not fair. It never has been fair, and they’ve treated our farmers badly.”…”

I mean, it’s comical at this point.

The President continues to make two things clear with these actions: He doesn’t care, and he has absolutely no interest in learning or understanding how these actions will impact the everyday American.

It’s all just a game to him.

We are pawns, and insignificant inconveniences that will just have to live with the impacts of his whims. The wealthy who purchase these elections don’t really care, either. Sure, it might be a little annoying, but they have more money than they could ever spend in their lifetimes. It doesn’t matter.

I wonder how long it will take, or what will have to happen, for his base and those who voted for him genuinely believing he would make their economic situation better to understand what’s happening and what they’ve done. We all know the right wing has mastered the art of creating a culture where that simply does not happen and their base isn’t wired that way, but something has to give at some point, right?

While they target and rage against some of the most vulnerable groups of people in the country and find new reasons to be angry about the most ridiculous things you could possibly imagine, soon they’re going to turn around and find themselves wondering why everything has gotten even more difficult for them to afford.
